We're bursting with excitement to announce the arrival of a bouncing baby alpaca here at Inkasisa Farm!
Many of you know our beloved girl, Atina, was bred back in April 2023 at Crimson Skye Alpaca Farm in Pennsylvania. Alpaca pregnancies can range from 345-360 days. But the anticipation was absolutely worth it.
.On April 23rd, 2024, I noticed Atina was showing signs of labor. Her water broke around 9 am, and by 9:30 things were progressing beautifully. With reverence and anticipation, we bore witness to Atina's labor, honoring the sacred process of birth with every breath and contraction. The kids and I stood in awe of the miracle unfolding before us. First came a tiny pink nose, then a delicate little paw. Our hearts soared as we saw the nose twitch and take its first breath of fresh air! The entire head emerged, followed by a whole leg. Slowly but surely, our precious little guy made his grand entrance.
We were prepared with some clean towels and gently helped him take his first steps into the world. He was a bundle of pure energy, kicking and wiggling right away. Our top priority was getting him warm and comfortable, and within no time, he was nursing happily from his mama, Atina. Shortly after, the placenta passed, and both mama and baby were in fantastic health.
This little heartthrob weighed in at a healthy 17.8 pounds, and we couldn't be prouder! We're still brainstorming the perfect name for this handsome fellow, so stay tuned for another update soon!
As we rejoice in the arrival of our newborn alpaca, we are deeply moved by the depth of our ancestral Quechua legacy and the strong bond that ties us to the land and alpacas. Filled with appreciation and respect for the path ahead, we commit to upholding the customs passed down by my ancestors, safeguarding and nurturing every new life that blesses our farm.
